Adopting innovation more important than ever

There is no doubt. The Coronavirus crisis has and will have an impact on the people’s way of living, economies and companies. All of these are currently under pressure, facing serious complications and challenges, especially in their way of working.

If most of them already have a crisis management plan, a “Business Continuity Plan”, or even a “relocation plan”, gathering all the major decision-makers and collaborators in a “bis” location, how many of these companies are really willing to assist the work of their employees from their homes?

According to the FPS Mobility, only 17% of workers currently practice teleworking in Belgium (32% in Brussels).

As seen in the past weeks in China, where public life was completely interrupted, working remotely has been highly recommended, . Today, according to our colleagues in the field, life is resuming with more energy and new working methods have emerged. Is this finally the era of the NWOW?

A modern workplace requires a different way of work organisation within teams. Interel Belgium shares some tips and tricks to promote the possibility of teleworking within your company.

1) Acknowledge the importance and organise the teams

Assemble an interdisciplinary team right now, which consists of IT leaders, human resources and communication managers, to start planning various scenarios and make the execution plan optimal, if the circumstances require a quick response.

2) Identify the functions and tasks concerned

List the roles and functions that can be performed without presence in the workplace, those for whom it is necessary and those for whom there is doubt and for whom the option should be tested.

It will quickly appear to you that many tasks do not require an effective presence in the workplace.

3) Verify available computer hardware and software, and address security gaps (access and use)

Test knowledge of the systems (e.g. videoconferencing, collaboration platforms such as Skype, Asana,...) and fill in the gaps through online trainings, making procedures available on the Intranet... Check the equipment available and whether it is necessary to use one's own equipment (telephone, laptop...), determine whether there are data access problems and especially security risks.

4) List the actions to be taken towards your clients

It can be useful to communicate the situation to your clients and to encourage virtual contacts. In this way, employees can be provided with a brief vademecum to deal with customer requests and queries and explain how to organise future meetings with clients.
